Challenger Learning Center Celebrates its Opening

After a year of space missions, the Dresser-Rand Challenger Learning Center officially celebrates its opening at the Premier Banquet Center.

Astronaut Pam Melroy, a native of Rochester is scheduled to be the featured guest at the dinner.  Ms. Melroy was on the seven-member crew of the Space Shuttle Discovery that embarked on a 13-day mission to the International Space Station in 2000.

The center runs space-themed missions designed to get children excited about math and science.  It has also been used for corporate team-building programs and public events.

Plans are under way for an open house at the Center September 18.  Organizers said it will be a chance for the public to tour mission control and the space station.
