REAP Farmers' Market

The Olean Farmers’ Market begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 at the JCC arch parking lot off  N. Union Street (near the Olean mall).  Join us every Saturday, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October 25th.  In addition to offering fresh fruits and vegetables grown only in the WNY region, the market also features locally produced baked goods, maple products, honey, flowers, bedding plants, landscaping plants, wood crafts & ceramics, baby blankets & fashion shawls, meats, cheese, ice cream, wine and more.  REAP – Your Community Farmers’ Market.

Meaning of the word Cattaraugus

CATTARAUGUS, from a Seneca Indian word meaning “bad smelling banks,” referring to the odor of natural gas leaking from rock seams. http://www.dos.ny.gov/info/pdfs/countynames.pdf

The word "Cattaraugus" means "foul-smelling river bank." This name is a result of the natural gas that oozes from the river mud. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cattaraugus_Creek.

In our opinion, only some of the river banks are bad smelling. Come on over and visit a creek in Cattaraugus County and tell us what you think.
