Celeste Withiam Southern Tier Biennial

See works from local artists for the Southern Tier Biennel.  Fay Bleier, Judson Brown, James Colby, David Higgins, Jennifer Miller, Mikel Wintermantel, Celeste Withiam and many more!  This is the opening reception for the artists.

Dual opening receptions will be at 3:00pm in the Olean Public Library with an award ceremony and light refreshments followed by a second reception at 4:30pm at the Center Gallery at JCC featuring hors d'oeuvres, happy hour refreshments and live music.  Both are FREE and open to the public.  This years jurors are Thomas Paquette and Tullis Johnson.

For the past eleven years, the Southern Tier Biennial (STB) has offered an exceptional opportunity to enter a juried art competition and exhibition to artists of the nine counties of New York State’s Southern Tier. The 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2015 shows were tremendous successes, with hundreds of artists entering, creating exhibitions that showcased the vitality and diversity of contemporary art in the region. Each biennial is juried by new jurors and therefore, the shows they create are different in tone and scope yet equally true to the definition of "a regional survey of contemporary art.” Accepted works are exhibited at the Olean Public Library Gallery and the Center Gallery at Jamestown Community College in Olean.

In addition to inclusion in a four-color printed catalog, accepted artists receive a $100 stipend to help allay costs associated with travel, shipping, and production. In addition, four cash awards totaling $2,500 will be presented: $1,000 to the Best of Show winner and $500 for three Honorable Mention winners. The Best of Show winner will also be presented with a solo show in the Fall of 2018 at the Olean Public Library Gallery with a four-color printed catalog, up to $1,000 for professional development (workshops, training, etc.), and up to $1,000 for show expenses (framing, displays, etc.).
