Maple syrup production is a fascinating process that begins in late winter/early spring when the nights are still cold, allowing maple trees to store sap in their roots. As the temperatures rise during the day, the sap begins to flow up through the tree. Farmers tap the trees using spouts, collecting the sap in buckets or through tubing systems. This clear, watery liquid is then gathered and transported to a sugar house, where it is boiled down to remove excess water and concentrate the natural sugars. The result is the rich, sweet syrup we love, which is then filtered and packaged for enjoyment. The process not only highlights the deliciousness of this natural treat but also reflects the dedication and hard work of local maple producers.
