By the Fireside at Allegany State Park

As the holidays draw closer, take a moment to make your season a little merrier by spending a relaxing evening in the lobby of the Red House Administration Building in Allegany State Park. Join us on Saturday, December 15th for “By the Fireside.” This month’s featured performance is by the Studio 107 Chamber Players of Olean High School, playing songs of the season. The group, while consisting mainly of students, is often joined by alumni, community members, and teachers. They got their start in 2008 performing at the Olean Community Thanksgiving dinner. Since then they have performed at various venues including community events, weddings, private parties, and nursing homes. Each March during “Music in our Schools” Month the students offer a program called “Harmony in the Morning,” performing in the school foyer for a half hour each day before school starts. This program offers the students a chance to show their appreciation to their school community and gives them the opportunity to share their music with their peers.

This free “By the Fireside” event takes place on Saturday, December 15th from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. For more information please contact the Environmental Education/Recreation Department at 716-354-9101 ext. 236 or AlleganySP [at] parks [dot] ny [dot] gov

Miner's Cabin built by Gold Miner

Miner’s Cabin in Franklinville was built by a miner that returned home after making it good during the gold rush era of the west coast. The building is not a cabin either but a three story house of Queen Anne design.
