Allegany State Park, known as the “Wilderness Playground of Western New York” is one such place where adventure abounds. With 65,000 acres of pristine forests, miles of trails, serene lakes and natural beauty, it’s hard not to find an activity to enjoy.
Get out of the house and come join in the fun as Allegany State Park launches a new series of hikes called “3rd Saturday Treks.” As the name implies, these free, family-friendly hikes will take place on the 3rd Saturday of each month all year long.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.

City Set For A BOOMING FOURTH! Bradner Stadium, Olean, gates open at 5:30 PM. Coolers and packages carried into the stadium will be checked for security reasons. In case of inclement weather, the fireworks will be scheduled for the next clear night.
Yeeehaw!! An honest-to-goodness rodeo at the home of the Nightmare Hayrides on Sommerville Street, complete with bronco bustin', bull riding, calf roping, barrel racing and stick horse racing for the kids.
Dirt will be flying at the Fall Tractor Pull in South Dayton just past the 4th of July for their summer tractor pull, located on the South Dayton Fireman's Grounds. Chicken BBQ will be held at the Fire Hall.
See hundreds of radio controlled aircraft fly through the skies at the Olean Airport on July 7-8, 2018. The S.T.A.R.S. (Southern Tier Aero Radio Society) Flying Club is dedicated to promoting the hobby of building and flying radio controlled model aircraft. All members reside in an area within a radius of 40-50 miles of Cuba, NY.
Who doesn’t love lawn sales? People come from all over as Randolph will again be hosting the 2018 Town Wide Lawn Sales on the weekend of July 13 & 14 (Friday & Saturday).
The home owners set their own time schedules and most are open on Friday and/or Saturday.
Heritage Day is sure to be “Good old fashioned fun for everyone”. The location is downtown Portville and there will be plenty to do for this one day festival. The Annual Portville Central School Alumni Banquet will be held the night before, with a street dance to follow at the American Legion.

Enjoy a visit to the Pfeiffer cabin which is listed on the national and state registers of historic places. The American Chestnut cabin is a very well preserved specimen of rustic style whose basic integrity has remained unchanged since its 1939/1940 construction. The cabin is a true gem of the Lillibridge preserve and an indoor exploration is not to be missed!

Last Call to see all the birds! The "Wild Wing Festival" will be held at our Sanctuary on Sunday August 26th from 12:00-5:00. There will be Music by "The Rustic Ramblers"" with Gene Hilts on Steel Guitar, and Guided tours of all the birds. Admission is $5 and tours are $2.00. Food will be provided by the Colden Mill Restaurant.
Annual Trail Ride. Bring your horse or rent one from The Crosspatch Horse Ranch and enjoy the company of other equine enthusiasts.
Have some old-fashioned fun on Cadiz Heritage Day to be held at the Howe-Prescott House with cultural demonstrations and food!
Watch apple cider being pressed, a blacksmith making tools, and butter churning. Learn about quilting, crop harvesting and more skills necessary in the 1800s. There will also be historical items on display; like antique engines and so much more!
Any year tractor is welcome for those 12 years and older. There is a $5 admission fee and a hitch fee of $10 per class for the pullers. Visitors are welcome to stop by the Firemen's Grounds, sit on the sidelines and root for their favorite tractor!

National Public Lands Day is our nation’s largest one-day event designed to give people a chance to give back to the public lands they love by volunteering for a few hours on a variety of service projects that enhance both the park and the visitor experience.
Delight in an afternoon of nature with your children or grandchildren at the Lillibridge preserve while engaging in many fun fall activities. Enjoy cider and doughnuts, “train” rides, pumpkin decorating, arts and crafts, and trick or treating along the interpretive trail. Costumes are encouraged to add to the fun!

The highest point in Cattaraugus County is Clare Mark, at 2,430 feet. This mount, in the Town of Allegany off Chipmunk Road, is privately owned, and does not have public access for hiking. Nearby attractions are Rock City Park and Allegany State Park.
