Trail Conditions

Snowmobile Trail Report - 3-14-18 -Trails are improving, but still use caution
Wednesday, March 14, 2018 - 9:44am

We have had three rounds of winter weather activity which have improved the trail systems in our County.  However, there may still be trees or debris down in spots, use caution!  Get out there now and enjoy them!  Want to spend the night - please visit

Allegany State Park Closed due to numerous trees down, widespread power outages, and numerous road closures.  This will remain in effect indefinitely.  Please call 716-354-9121 for questions or concerns.  Work is currently being done on the XC Ski Trails.

Ashford Snowmobile Club – Some grooming is being done, reporting good conditions.

Elibomwons (Randolph) – Trails open but limited conditions.  Watch out for trees and debris that may still be down.

Enchanted Mountains Border Riders (Limestone) – Remain closed.

Franklinville Snowmobile Club - Trail C2 is now open all the way to Little Valley. Use caution on the snowbounders end closer to Little Valley. We will try to groom that way if we can. Might not happen till Wednesday though. All of our trails are open. Trails from village north are groomed and in pretty good shape.

Portville Snowmobile Club – If you are going out on the trails please go slow and cautiously, watching for down trees and water in the trail.

Snowbounders (Little Valley) – Open, reporting good conditions.  At this time, all trails are open with the exception of S33 off the Pat McGee trail to Case's junkyard which remains CLOSED.  Logging operations will begin Tuesday near trail C1A behind Setterstix in Cattaraugus on Skyline Pool property. Please use caution while riding on this section. It has been signed.

Southern Tier SnowDrifters – 3-13-2018 - We are still open, HOWEVER...Trails are very thin in the Gowanda area and we do not encourage any riding between the Prison (RT 62) and the old Gowanda Starcraft Dealer (Maltbie Rd). Please refrain from riding in this area. We are expecting more snow, hopefully things will improve in the next 12-24 hours. Remember to Ride Safe Ride Right and join STSD.

Tri-County Drifthoppers –  Open, reporting good conditions.  Ride on in to the Club Meeting this Thursday evening- 7:30 pm at the Arcade VFW Post.

WNY Snowmobile Club of Boston – Open, reporting limited conditions.  Zoar Valley is bad at this time and there still may be trees or debris on the trails.  Please be aware, Maple syrup lines were run across C4 between Route 240 and Mayo Rd. Use great caution!!

Top 10 site for Steelhead Fishing

Cattaraugus Creek has been listed in the top 10 sites for Steelhead Fishing (rainbow trout fishing) by 2 outdoor magazines. Steelhead Trout AKA Rainbow trout are very similar to Salmon in both taste and habits. Unlike other areas of the United States, our native Rainbow trout (Steelhead Trout) spend a majority of time in Lake Erie a freshwater lake and spawn in the Cattaraugus Creek and other tributaries.

The following is from the New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation's article "Steelhead Fishing in Lake Erie Tributaries"

Lake Erie's tributary streams, both big and small, receive an annual run of migratory rainbow trout called "steelhead." From October through April, thousands of steelhead ascend New York's Lake Erie tributaries on their mission to spawn. Excellent fishing opportunities await any angler who wishes to try their hand at steelhead fishing. Between the acrobatic leaps, long drag-screaming runs and rod quaking head shakes, the fight of an early run steelhead is a truly exhilarating experience.
