Turkey Trot at St. Bonaventure University 2019

Start your Turkey day off right with the annual Turkey Trot and Fun Run & Walk, which starts in the St. Bonaventure University Campus.  This is a non-timed 5K which has seen over 200 runners and walkers in years' past.

Check in at St. Bonaventure’s Murphy Auditorium from 8-8:45 AM.
THE 5K BEGINS AT 9:00 AM.

Sponsored by Olean Medical Group, there is no admission fee for participants, but the Y will be collecting nonperishable food donations for Olean Food Pantry, Inc. outside Murphy Auditorium.

Requested donations are $5 for Y members and $10 for the public.

Meaning of the word Cattaraugus

CATTARAUGUS, from a Seneca Indian word meaning “bad smelling banks,” referring to the odor of natural gas leaking from rock seams. http://www.dos.ny.gov/info/pdfs/countynames.pdf

The word "Cattaraugus" means "foul-smelling river bank." This name is a result of the natural gas that oozes from the river mud. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cattaraugus_Creek.

In our opinion, only some of the river banks are bad smelling. Come on over and visit a creek in Cattaraugus County and tell us what you think.
