Oh what Talent you have Cattaraugus County

Consider yourself informed.  Cattaraugus County is full of amazingly talented artists.  Take for instance, Olean resident, Jennifer Miller.  Her acrylic painting of a pair of ruddy ducks was the top choice for the 2015-16 Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, or commonly known as the Duck Stamp.

So you ask what exactly does that mean and really how special is Jennifer?

Well, this Stamp sells for $15 and raises about $25 million each year for conservation and protection of wetland habitats in the National Wildlife Refuge system (98% goes to conservation, 2% to production).  Okay, so think just outside of Ellicottville on Rt. 219 and off of Rt. 86 near Allegany.  This is the most sucessful way the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to ensure ducks, geese and thousands of other species of birds (and other wildlife) don't lose their homes.  Waterfowl hunters age 16 and older are required to purchase and carry this Duck Stamp, however, many stamp collectors, mother Earth lovers, and conservationists use this as a way to support the efforts.

Jennifer's artwork (artist on Routes to Art), had to be chosen over 185 other entries!  That seems pretty special to me.  Throw in the fact that this is a National contest, and there were five options of species to choose from.  Jennifer's studio is called Featherdust Studios.  She describes herself as a Wildlife/Fantasy/Jewelry Artist but you can just describe her as super talented!  Check out her website or facebook!  And make sure to give her a big Congratulations!
