ASP Earth Day 2018

Celebrate Earth Day/Arbor Day at Allegany State Park this Saturday April 21st from 10:am to 12:30pm at the Red House Administration Building.

Earth Day is April 22nd…Arbor Day is April 27th… Two events that celebrate two things we couldn’t live without! This year the Environmental Education Department of Allegany State Park combines both these events into one celebration! This family-friendly event takes place on Saturday, April 21st from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Red House Administration building. The fun kicks off at 10:00 with a one mile, round trip, guided hike on Red Jacket Trail -this is a continuation of our Third Saturday Trek series. Kids activities run from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and will feature Sun Painting –weather permitting. This particular activity will run from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Bring a t-shirt to paint, or we will have bandanas available for a $2.00 donation. There will also be a slide presentation from 11:00-11:30 a.m. on the changes in butterfly communities in Allegany State park over an 80-year period. Kids can also build their own butterfly garden to take with them at 11:30 a.m. after the talk!

The Allegany State Park Trails Department will be in the lobby of the Administration Building amid the festivities from 10:00 to 12:30 p.m. looking for people interested in the Volunteer Trail Stewardship Program. The program is a great way to give back to your park and help maintain a trail system that is used by more than 1 million visitors each year. After lunch, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. join the ASP Trails Department and our Volunteer Trail Stewards as we clear the Red House bike path of any encroaching brush. This is a fun opportunity for the family to give back to the park on one of our most popular paths. Meet in the Red House Administration Building’s great room.

On-going during this event, participants can test their skills at Nature Trivia, color, and check out various displays such as non-biodegradable plastics, and DDT. Event attendees are encouraged to bring a lunch to enjoy in the park.
