In 2011, an article written by Christine A. Smyczynski for the Member Connection, the magazine for AAA Members, two of the treasures of the Enchanted Mountains of Cattaraugus County have been named in the top 10 Hidden Gems in Western New York by AAA.
Allegany State Park Equestrian Trails
Trails:
Allegany State Park has set aside 55 miles of trails spread out on 65,000 acres, specifically for summertime equestrian use. The horse trails are on a series of interconnecting loop trails that utilize gravel park roads, abandoned town roads and abandoned railroad rights-of-way. You will ride on hillside, rolling and level trails.
Footing:
Good footing for horses throughout woodland settings.
Markings:
There is an informative free horse trail map that can be obtained in the park rental offices.
Signs of Spring Evening Walk at Allegany State Park
Spring is here! Join an Allegany State Park Naturalist for a "Signs of Spring Evening Walk" explaining Allegany State Park's blossoming spring critters on Wednesday, April 23rd from 6:30-8:00pm. Participants will be treated to some early signs of spring that may include display flight of American Woodcock, chorusing amphibians, newly emerged spring plants and much more. Come early and celebrate Earth Day with making bird feeders using recyclable materials. Earth Day is all about environmental stewardship, and this activity is a meaningful way to reduce waste and support local wildlife.
Summit 50/50 at Allegany State Park

The Summit 50/50, hosted by Reluctant Runner Racing, is a Trail Sisters approved ultra trail race in the stunning summit of Allegany State Park, New York's largest and most picturesque state park. Experience crisp autumn air, brilliant foliage, and a course that will push your limits in all the best ways.

Beaver Pond Hike- Meet at 1:00 p.m. at Camp Allegany and hike to the Bova beaver ponds and learn more about these industrious creatures.

New Gear's Eve Bike Ride Allegany State Park
New Gear’s Eve Bike Ride begins at Camp Allegany on December 31 2024 at 6:00 p.m., with the ride starting at 6:30 p.m. Grab your bike and some friends to join Allegany staff and other fat bike enthusiasts for the last ride of the year. Bring lights, wear warm and reflective gear and a helmet. Participants may be split into different paced groups, if necessary. No one will be left behind. There will be a social to follow the ride in the Rec Hall at Camp Allegany. Bring your own snacks.

Full Moon Fun Ride at Allegany State Park
Participants are invited to join Allegany State Park educators for a fun ride of 5-7 miles around the Red House area bike path. All ages and bikes are welcome. Please no scooter bikes or training wheels. Helmets are required for all, bring a bike light, water and a sense of adventure as we ride under the first full moon of May.

Allegany State Park: Moon Walk
Looking for a unique way to enjoy the crisp March air?
Allegany State Park is hosting a Moon Walk on Tuesday, March 31st. Everyone will be meeting at the Red House Admin Building at 5:30 PM. It’s a great chance to see the park in a whole new light (literally!).
