Cross Country Skiing Allegany State Park - Paul Crawford

Ever want to try Cross Country Skiing? On Wednesday, February 7th, 2018, the Environmental Education Department will host an evening of cross country skiing on the Art Roscoe trails of Allegany State Park followed by a cup of tea (or hot chocolate) in the Summit Warming Hut. J-Con Parks is supplying the equipment for a special price of $15.00 (which includes tax and a cool mug for you to keep). New skiers needing equipment should come to the Summit Warming Hut between 5- 5:15 PM. A mini “learn to ski” clinic will be taught by certified PSIA instructors and the Allegany State Park Nordic Ski Patrol at 5:30 PM followed by a short tour of the trails.

More advanced skiers who need to rent equipment should be at the at the Summit Warming Hut by 5:45 PM. The program starts at 6:00 PM. Advanced skiers can head to the trails for some fun “kick and glide” with a guide.  Don’t forget to bring a headlamp! Everyone is welcome to stay for evening tea or hot chocolate after skiing. Please register for this event before 3:00 PM the day of the program. For more information please contact the Environmental Education/ Recreation Department at 716-354-9101 ext. 236 or AlleganySP [at] parks [dot] ny [dot] gov

Cross country skiing is an excellent low impact exercise, easy to learn, and a lifetime sport. As one of the largest cross country areas in Western New York, the Art Roscoe system boosts 20 plus miles of rolling, scenic, groomed trails suitable for all levels and abilities.

The Outdoor Adventure Series is a great way to learn about fun activities to do in Allegany State Park- Western New York’s Playground. Check our Facebook page for more Outdoor Adventure Series programs coming up in 2018.
