2019 EMRD Hellbilly Heartbreakers

Watch the hometown Roller Derby team take on their opponents at their home bout this Saturday!  The Hellbilly Heartbreakers season is upon us!  This team is part of the Enchanted Mountains Roller Derby League, who are a skater owned and operated league created in 2010.  These girls are not only really tough and talented, they are supporters of local charities as well.  They donate 10% of proceeds each bout (game).

Home bouts of the year are held at the William O. Smith Rec Center in Olean, with refreshments available as well as half time entertainment. Tickets are $8 in advance (See their Facebook or any Derby Girl) or $10 at door.  Let's give them a great crowd!

Don't forget to cheer them on the rest of the season as well!  Here is the schedule:

Home Games:
June 22 vs Ithaca BlueStockings
July 13 vs Two Rivers (PA) Roller Derby
Aug 17 vs Ohio Valley Roller Derby

Away Games:  Three previously held already in April and early May
July 28 @ Harrisburg Area Roller Derby in Enola, PA

Meaning of the word Cattaraugus

CATTARAUGUS, from a Seneca Indian word meaning “bad smelling banks,” referring to the odor of natural gas leaking from rock seams. http://www.dos.ny.gov/info/pdfs/countynames.pdf

The word "Cattaraugus" means "foul-smelling river bank." This name is a result of the natural gas that oozes from the river mud. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cattaraugus_Creek.

In our opinion, only some of the river banks are bad smelling. Come on over and visit a creek in Cattaraugus County and tell us what you think.
