Pumpkin Carving by Eric Jones

The Great Pumpkin Contest and Show with Eric Jones - Saturday, October 16th   1pm-7pm.

To celebrate the artistry of our gourd-ous pumpkins, Pfeiffer Nature Center is once again hosting a pumpkin contest and show!  This year’s show will be held at the Portville Free Library.  Eric Jones, local artist and professional 3-D pumpkin carver will be joining us from 3-5 pm to share in a live pumpkin carving demonstration!  Eric’s freshly created pumpkin carving will be placed in a free raffle and the winner will be notified following the event.

You can join in on the fun by entering a pumpkin for the contest, creating a pumpkin for show or by visiting Eshelman to view the artistic pieces on display.  Two contest awards will be given out for the judged pumpkins. Winners need not be present to claim their prize. Pumpkins can be carved and or decorated with any theme in mind.  Pfeiffer reserves the right for approval for display. This free event is open to folks of all ages and artistic capabilities!  To reserve a free spot for your pumpkin, RSVP by Thursday, October 14th by emailing naturalist [at] pfeiffernaturecenter [dot] org or contacting the office at 716-933-0187.

Participating pumpkins must be dropped off to the Pfeiffer Nature Center Office, 14 South Main Street, Portville between 5 pm and 7 pm Thursday, October 14th or 5pm and 7 pm Friday, October 15th or by special arrangement.  Let us know at the time of drop off if you would like to enter the pumpkin in the contest or if your creation is for show only. Your pumpkin can be reclaimed at 7 pm Saturday October 16th at the Eshelman property or at a later, pre-arranged date.  This event is free to all contestants and visitors.  Donations are gratefully accepted.  COVID safety precautions must be followed.  This event will be canceled in the event of rain.  If the weather appears questionable, look for a cancellation notice on the top of our website home page.  Pfeiffer Nature Center is supported by United Way funding.  Pfeiffer Nature Center where science, art & nature come together.
