The town of Leon, New York was formed, from the town of Conewango, on April 24, 1832. James Waterhouse named it for the ancient Kingdom of Leon of Spain.

Tourism Promotion Program
Cattaraugus County's Tourism Promotion Grant Program, also known as the Bed Tax Grant Program, accepts funding applications, that support and encourage tourism promotion in Cattaraugus County, New York (the Enchanted Mountains).
Funding Source
The program's funding source is the County's share of taxes collected from overnight stays, bed taxes, within the County. This funding source is split into the following two groups:
Group A
Several Chambers of Commerce with full-time staff.
Group B
Business associations, non-profit organizations, events, festivals, chambers of commerce without full-time staff and other tourism-associated activities.

Coldspring

A Little History
The first settler arrived around 1818. The Town of Coldspring was established in 1837 from a part of the Town of Napoli. In 1847 and 1848, part of the town was added to the Town of South Valley.
Great Valley
Great Valley is a town in Cattaraugus County, New York. The town is named after its local geographical setting, a relative comparison of two tributaries (the other being the neighboring Little Valley) of the Allegheny River.

Holland Land Bank Presentation at Leon Historical Society
Celebrate New York State's Path through History Weekend with a presentation about the Holland Land Company at the Leon Historical Society on June 15th at 11am. Barker Museum's Archivist, Catherine Oag-Miller will lead the presentation. She has extensive knowledge of people and happenings of the local areas and is known for giving an engaging presentation. For those of you who may have Holland Land Co. on your Deed, bring a notebook and enjoy hearing Ms. Oag-Miller at the 1836 Church in Leon, NY. Light refreshments will be served.
