Earth Day…Arbor Day… Two events that celebrate two things we couldn’t live without! This year the Environmental Education Department of Allegany State Park combines both these events into one celebration!

This family-friendly event takes place on Saturday, April 27st from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Red House Administration Building. The fun kicks off at 10:00 with a walk through the Red House Wetland lead by a naturalist.

Activities in the Administration Building run from 10:00am-12:00pm and will feature Sun Painting –weather permitting. Bring a t-shirt to paint, or we will have bandanas available for a $1.00 donation. Sun painting will run from 10:00am -11:00am. Kids can build and take home their own hanging planter made from recycled and repurposed materials. We will also have button making where kids can make a personalized Earth/Arbor Day themed button.

Take some time to visit the Red House Museum and check out all the cool critters in Allegany State Park.  If you have any questions about the museum there will be an ask the Naturalist table with fun games and hands on activities from 10:00am -12:00pm.

To wrap up the day join the Naturalists to plant trees from 12:00- 1:00pm. This year we will focus on planting trees and shrubs that will minimize erosion and help create a healthy aquatic ecosystem.

The Allegany State Park Trail Department will be in the lobby of the Administration Building amid the festivities from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. looking for people interested in the Volunteer Trail Stewardship Program. The program is a great way to give back to your park and help maintain a trail system that is used by more than 1 million visitors each year.
